Unicharm Corporation‘s subsidiary in Indonesia, PT Uni-Charm Indonesia Tbk (UCI) has launched a limited-time product using bio material, Charm Daun Sirih + Herbal Bio from its sanitary napkin brand Charm in Indonesia on World Environment Day. Bio material is a biomass or materials made from bio mineral raw materials. The petroleum energy problem is a common issue worldwide, and many countries and regions are working on measures to address it. Unicharm Indonesia launched Charm sanitary napkins made of environmentally friendly materials as a limited-time product in conjunction with World Environment Day last year in 2022. This year, the surface sheet that touches the skin is made from bio material such as previously disposed pressed sugarcane, limestone, botanical oil, and natural resins, in an effort to further reduce the use of petroleum-based materials. In addition, materials containing bio material were also used for the backsheet of the sanitary napkin, individual packaging, and outer packaging. It is available in Indonesian e-commerce and selected stores for a limited time starting June 6, 2023. Unicharm Corporation executive officer, PT Uni-Charm Indonesia Tbk president director Yuji Ishii, says: “Our sanitary napkin brand Charm has been launching a limited-time product on the World Environment Day for three consecutive years since 2021. CHARM Herbal Ansept+ Bio, launched last year in 2022, contains bio material derived from sugarcane, aiming to reduce the use of petroleum-derived raw materials. This year, we have been making repeated trial and error efforts to further reduce the amount of petroleum-derived raw materials. As a result, we were able to launch Charm Daun Sirih + Herbal Bio, which contains bio material such as limestone, botanical oil, and natural resins, in addition to sugarcane. While being environmentally friendly, the product maintains the same absorbency and deodorizing power as the conventional Charm Daun Sirih + Herbal in terms of functionality, so it can be used with peace of mind.” Unicharm believes that launching this product will contribute to the following goals of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
